Marshall Health Network-St. Mary's Medical Center (SMMC) has received two Gold Seal of Approval® awards from The Joint Commission.

SMMC’s Regional Spine Center was awarded the Gold Seal of Approval® for Disease-Specific Care Certification in Spine Surgery and SMMC’s Regional Joint Replacement Center was awarded the Gold Seal of Approval® for Advanced Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement.

The Gold Seal is a national symbol of quality, reflecting a health care organization's commitment to safe, high-quality patient care.

"Earning The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal reflects our team’s ongoing dedication to clinical excellence and patient-centered care,” said Angie Swearingen, president of SMMC. “This recognition reinforces our commitment to delivering the highest quality services to the Tri-State community."

The certifications recognize health care organizations that provide coordinated, evidence-based care across the continuum—from pre-surgical evaluation through surgery, rehabilitation and follow-up. The certification evaluates how organizations use clinical outcomes and performance measures to improve care and prepare patients and caregivers for recovery.

“These awards recognize health care organizations that continually strive for excellence in patient safety and quality of care,” said Ken Grubbs, DNP, MBA, RN, executive vice president of Accreditation and Certification Operations and chief nursing officer for The Joint Commission. “We commend St. Mary’s Medical Center for its commitment to improving processes and delivering safer, higher-quality and more compassionate care.”
