Marshall Health Network to host pediatric day of remembrance

Monday, March 16, 2026

Marshall Health Network (MHN) will hold a pediatric day of remembrance Thursday, March 19, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Harless Auditorium on the Cabell Huntington Hospital campus, 1600 Medical Center Drive in Huntington. Families who have experienced the loss of a child cared for by Marshall Health Network are invited for an evening of reflection, connection and shared support while honoring and celebrating the lives of their children. Marshall Health Network employees involved in their care are also welcome to attend.

The evening will provide a supportive space for remembrance, connection and healing. Led by Marshall Health Network staff, families will have the opportunity to participate in a brief program recognizing the children who are remembered, followed by time for reflection and fellowship with other families and members of the care team.

“Remembering the children we’ve lost is not about holding onto grief but about honoring the light they brought into our lives,” said Kara V. Anderson, M.D., pediatric palliative care physician at Marshall Health Network and assistant professor of pediatrics at Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. “We hope this evening reminds families that they are not alone as they cope with loss.”

The program is sponsored by the Pediatric Bereavement Program at Marshall Health Network – Hoops Family Children’s Hospital in collaboration with the pediatric palliative care team. Pediatric palliative care focuses on improving quality of life for children with serious medical conditions while supporting the emotional, social and spiritual needs of their families.
