Marshall Health Network – Rivers Health opens new Emergency Department

U.S. Senator Jim Justice joined health system and community leaders to mark milestone in emergency care for Mason County and surrounding region

Marshall Health Network – Rivers Health celebrated the completion of its new Emergency Department Wednesday, marking a major expansion of emergency care for patients and families in Mason County and the surrounding region. 

At nearly 12,000 square feet—more than twice the size of the previous Emergency Department—the new space features 11 private emergency treatment rooms, including a dedicated pediatric room, as well as two private trauma rooms, two psychiatric rooms, two decontamination suites, express treatment rooms and a dedicated ambulance bay. Designed around the needs of patients and families, the expanded department provides greater privacy and comfort while improving patient flow and efficiency for care teams.

Hammers, chief engagement officer of Marshall Health Network. “For the people of Mason County and the surrounding region, that means greater access to the care they need, right here in their community.” 

U.S. Senator Jim Justice joined Marshall Health Network leadership, Rivers Health team members and community leaders for the ceremonial ribbon cutting and preview of the new department. The project was supported in part by $7 million in Rural Hospital Grant funding awarded in 2024 while Justice was governor of West Virginia. 

“Our emergency departments are absolute lifelines for West Virginians. When our folks are facing some of the toughest moments of their lives, they deserve to know that quality care is close by when they need it most. This new emergency department will be exactly that for Mason County and all the surrounding communities. I couldn’t be prouder to have played a part in this critical project, and I truly believe it will take care of our people, save lives, and serve West Virginia families for generations to come,” said Senator Jim Justice. 

For Rivers Health, the expansion represents the next chapter in a longstanding tradition of caring for the Point Pleasant community, now strengthened by its connection to Marshall Health Network.

This new Emergency Department gives them the space and resources to continue that tradition while enhancing the overall experience for our patients and families.” 

The new Rivers Health Emergency Department will begin serving patients Sept. 1, 2026.
