Marshall Health Network performs first robotic-assisted joint replacement surgery at Rivers Health

Orthopaedic surgeon Saygin Kamaci, M.D., performed Marshall Health Network’s first robotic-assisted joint replacement at Marshall Health Network - Rivers Health earlier this month.

The procedure, performed using the VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted System, marks a milestone at the hospital, which previously performed knee and hip replacements manually.

“Bringing this technology to Rivers Health is another way we’re investing in the care our community can receive right here in Point Pleasant,” said Shawn Bastin, president of Rivers Health. “VELYS gives our surgeons advanced tools to personalize each procedure with greater precision, supporting the best possible experience and outcome for every patient.”

The VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted System does not require a CT scan and provides surgeons with real-time information to help precisely position the joint implant based on each patient’s anatomy. The surgeon remains in full control throughout the procedure, using the technology to help protect surrounding tissue and improve joint stability and function.

“Our practice is advancing precision in knee replacement surgery with the introduction of VELYS Robotic-Assisted Technology, offering patients an innovative, technology-driven approach,” said Kamaci, who also serves as an assistant professor at Marshall University Joan C.
