Marshall Health Network expands access to pediatric nutrition services

Friday, March 21, 2025

Families now have more access to comprehensive pediatric nutrition and dietetics outpatient services at Marshall Health Network (MHN) with the addition of Registered Dietitian Rachel Sallade, M.S., R.D.N., L.D.

Sallade works closely with patients and families to develop individualized nutrition plans for children with chronic illnesses including endocrine, heart and gastroenterological conditions. She has nearly 10 years of experience as a registered dietitian in private practice and with the Marshall University Nutrition Education Program in Kanawha County. Sallade is a graduate of Marshall University in Huntington and West Virginia University in Morgantown.

Pediatric dietitians play a crucial role in helping children develop healthy eating habits, manage medical conditions through diet and address concerns such as nutrient deficiencies and weight management. The inclusion of a dedicated outpatient dietitian into a child’s care team ensures that MHN patients receive tailored nutritional guidance, an essential component of managing conditions such as diabetes, obesity, constipation, IBS/IBD, hypertension and food intolerances/allergies, among many other diagnoses.

“Managing disorders like diabetes requires a multidisciplinary effort,” said Amanda S. Dye, M.D., a board-certified pediatric endocrinologist and associate professor at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. “Offering a full team approach allows Marshall Pediatrics to provide comprehensive, coordinated care closer to home for families in our region.”

Pediatric nutrition and dietetics services are available by appointment at Marshall Pediatrics locations at 300 Corporate Center Drive, 304-691-8901 in Scott Depot and 1600 Medical Center Drive, 304-691-1300 in Huntington. Insurance coverage for dietitian services may differ by provider. A referral is recommended for insurance purposes. For more information, visit www.marshallhealth.org/services/nutrition-services/.
