Huntington’s Kitchen announces August class schedule

Huntington’s Kitchen, a community outreach program of Cabell Huntington Hospital, has announced its cooking class schedule for August 2023.
All classes are limited to 16 participants, ages 15 and up, unless otherwise specified. Registration is required by calling 304.522.0887 or by visiting huntingtons-kitchen.org.
Wednesday, August 9
Dining With a Doc
Michael Collins, DO, a nephrologist at HIMG, will be the guest doctor who will discuss proper food choices to control blood pressure. This class will be offered 6 to 8 p.m. Fee: Free, but registration is required.
Tuesday, August 15
Going Gluten-Free
A gluten-free diet excludes the protein gluten, which is found in wheat and other grains. Attendees will make a gluten-free “fried” chicken and potatoes with gluten-free cupcakes for dessert. This class will be offered 6 to 8 p.m. Fee: $25 per person.
Wednesday, August 16
Lunchbox Workshop
Meredith Wellman, MS, RD, LD, registered dietitian at HIMG, will host a Lunchbox Workshop for children ages 2-12. Attendees will learn to build a balanced lunch and will leave with a full belly, tomorrow's lunch packed, improved kitchen confidence and more knowledge about nutrition. One adult is required to attend with children. This class is free, but registration is required. To register, please call 304.399.2275.
Friday, August 18
Senior Focus Friday
Open to anyone age 50 or older. Enjoy a healthy meal and information about COPD treatment from Dr. Yousef Shweihat, MD, Marshall Health pulmonologist at the Cabell Huntington Hospital Center for Lung Health and professor at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, and Jodi Biller, DNP, Marshall Health nurse practitioner and director of clinical improvement for the MHC Accountable Care Organization. This event will be offered noon to 1 p.m. Fee: Free, but registration is required.

Global Cooking, Local Eating
This series of classes demonstrates how to make foods from around the world with local ingredients. On this night, we’ll explore how to make Indian chicken tikka masala, basmati rice and kachumber salad. This class will be offered 6 to 8 p.m. Fee: $25 per person.
Tuesday, August 29
Fork Nite
In this special class, kids age 10 and older can learn basic knife skills while making two different types of stir fry, one protein and one vegetable, with sides of rice and Asian noodles. This class will be offered 6 to 8 p.m. Fee: $25 per child.
Huntington’s Kitchen is a community food center where people come to learn, cook and experience everything well-prepared food and healthy living have to offer.
